Academics Designed for Growth

At Park Ridge Christian School, we proudly use the Abeka curriculum from kindergarten through eighth grade. This rigorous, Christ-centered curriculum builds strong foundations in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and history while developing critical-thinking skills through a structured, proven approach to learning. With small class sizes, experienced teachers can provide individualized attention and support each student's academic growth.

Student progress is monitored throughout the school year, not only at report-card time. Teachers and school leadership work together to identify concerns early, provide additional support when needed, and follow each student’s progress. When a student is struggling, we communicate with families and work together to help the student move forward.

Literacy

  • Systematic, phonics-based reading instruction

  • Reading groups in K–2; class reading in grades 3–8

  • Reading fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension

  • Critical thinking and literary understanding

Writing & Language Arts

  • Cursive writing taught in kindergarten and refined through the elementary and middle school years

  • Grammar, spelling, and vocabulary instruction that strengthens written expression

  • Writing progresses from simple sentences and stories to essays and research papers

  • Creative writing opportunities across grade levels

  • Essays, summaries, character sketches, literary analysis, and current-events writing in grades 5–8

Mathematics

  • Strong foundations in arithmetic and mathematical reasoning

  • Speed and accuracy developed through mastery of essential math facts

  • Daily speed drills reinforce fluency and automatic recall

  • Problem-solving skills strengthened through practical applications

  • Pre-Algebra in 7th grade and Algebra in 8th grade*

Science

  • Science taught from a biblical worldview, with an emphasis on God as Creator

  • Life, earth, and physical science concepts explored throughout the grades

  • Health and the study of the human body

  • Scientific method, observation, and critical thinking

  • Hands-on STEM activities and laboratory experiences

Enrichment & Student Support

  • National achievement testing using the Stanford 10 for all grade levels

  • Physical education four days a week for grades 1–8 and two days a week for kindergarten

  • Free after-school tutoring with the student's teacher

  • Music in K–4, including patriotic songs, hymns, and Christmas and seasonal music

  • Art instruction in K–4

  • Computer instruction in grades 4–8, including Microsoft programs and MLA formatting

  • U.S. history taught in kindergarten through 4th grade

  • North Carolina history and state study, including the 4th-grade NC State Notebook

  • Geography, maps, and map-reading skills

  • Study and memorization of foundational U.S. documents, including the Preamble and Bill of Rights

  • U.S., Old World, and World History studied in grades 5–8
